Product Description
Turn up your viewing experience with Crystal Clear III. Here is a new TV that not only gives you great picture and sound but also modern styling and quality finish. It features Crystal Clear III for better quality images that reveal more detail and Incredible Surround for superb audio. The Philips 23PF9945 23 in. Wide Screen LCD HDTV is a compact HDTV panel. This slim and lightweight TV sits smartly on the included stand, the screen can also be mounted on the wall to conserve space. The eye-catching black and silver 23PF9945 LCD is the perfect blend of high style and high definition. The 450:1 contrast provides a vast improvement in clarity, while wider viewing angles assure that you always enjoy the entertainment no matter what you angle of view is. You can also hook-up your personal computer for wide-screen viewing of spreadsheets or to create a family gallery showcasing slide shows of your digital photo album on this high definition flat panel screen.

From the Manufacturer
HDTV is the latest and best television signal available. It produces picture quality more than twice that of traditional analog broadcasts. In order to effectively maximize the HDTV signal, a television must incorporate advanced signal input connectivity

Auto Picture button on the remote control enables one-touch selection of various preset optimized image settings to suit different TV program. Do refer to the DFU for the various Smart Picture modes.

The 3D comb filter separates brightness and color signals better in 3D domain to eliminate cross-color, cross-luminance and dot-crawl distortion - all of which detract from your viewing pleasure. The 3D digital comb filter performs field-by-field comparisons of the television image to accurately separate the color from the black-and-white information and remove both horizontally and vertically hanging dots, as well as dot crawl. The result is a razor sharp image.

Auto Sound provides pre-defined sound settings for ultra bass, bass, treble and balance for the optimum entertainment experience.

Crystal Clear III combines a whole range of enhancements to provide a better picture. They include a 2D Comb filter, Dynamic contrast, Blue stretch and Green enhancement so that you always get the most natural looking colors.

A DVI-D input makes an uncompressed digital RGB connection from source to screen. By eliminating the conversion of the digital signal to analog, it delivers an unblemished image. Thanks to the non-degraded signal, you get less flicker and a clearer picture. The DVI input is fully backward compatible with HDMI sources, and also uses HDCP copy protection.

This design style emphasizes a slim, compact look that saves space and fits in anywhere.

Incredible Surround is an audio technology from Philips that dramatically magnifies the sound field to immerse you in the audio. Using state-of-the-art electronic phase shifting, Incredible Surround mixes sounds from left and right in such a way that it expands the virtual distance between the two speakers. This wider spread greatly enhances the stereo effect and creates a more natural sound dimension. Incredible Surround allows you to experience total surround with greater depth and width of sound, without the use of additional speakers.

With PC input you can connect your TV to a computer and use the TV as a PC monitor.

Other standard features include:
  • Auto Picture to personalise your viewing.
  • Auto Sound uses pre-defined sound settings for better sound.
  • DVI-D provides the best digital picture.
  • Compact and slim design that fits in every room.

3 out of 5 stars Good picture poor volume controll   March 10, 2010
W. Kitchen (Columbia, SC)
I bought this TV for use in my bedroom some time ago. The TV has a great picture but from level 1-10 on the sound there is no change in volume which is a nuisance. At this sound level the TV is hard to fall asleep too and forget it if you don't set the timer and an infomercial comes on in the middles of the night because it's going to wake you up.

My only other complaint is turning on and off the TV. If you turn the TV off using the button on the TV you can't turn it back on with the remote. To me this is very strange and took a little getting use to but now it's not a big deal.

I have had my TV for almost 2 years and use it in the kitchen now because the of the volume issues but over all it has been a good TV.

3 out of 5 stars Not a Horrible TV   May 5, 2009
JMS (Alexandria, VA)
I have had this TV for 2 years and find that it was not a horrible purchase. The picture is excellent when playing DVDs, but somewhat grainy with regular cable (a problem with other TVs as well). The remote is tiny and it is next to impossible to see the buttons in low light (so buy a new remote. . .). The channel images on the screen are also too small and the time delay when switching channels requires patience. The worse part of the equation is the volume. As others have said, the volume on setting "1" is too loud. Guess it is good for the price, but I wouldn't buy again.

3 out of 5 stars Thank Goodness I purchased Extra Warranty Protection!!!   March 4, 2009
L. Rose (San Francisco, Ca, USA)
Purchased a REFURB through ebay slightly over 1 year ago (Jan 2008) and decided to purchase an additional warranty(square trade). I paid about $350 + shipping for the TV and was very pleased until December 2008 when I went to turn it on one day and NOTHING! I have no idea what the problem was & cannot imagine what led to it~ The TV was wall mounted (by contractor), NOT hooked up to cable,as I used a simple antenna, and I did have a DVD player connected to the TV. Filed a claim with warranty provider & the TV was repaired & sent back to me. I tried 3 different times to call and find out what the problem had been but was never able to get an answer. Seems to be working fine but I'm keeping my fingers crossed since the warranty has expired!!

4 out of 5 stars Great LCD monitor, good TV   October 20, 2008
Stephen2046
I have owned this machine for more than 1 year. I use this machine as both extended monitor of my laptop and TV. As a computer monitor, the picture is crystal, especially when I watch the photos taken with my Nikon D40 on it. The pictures are well reproduced with the original color, very sharp and saturated comparing with LCD monitor of my laptop and other CRT monitor. The reason I give it 4 star is that it's not a good TV, compared with my 14" DAEWOO CRT TV. I think this is due to the low contrast of this machine. However, for about $300, it's a great deal!

4 out of 5 stars No Digital Tuner! No HDMI, but also not a lot of $$$, either.   January 23, 2008

I received this item as a shelf pull from a Big Box store, and immediately noticed the large sticker on the base telling me that it's only got an analog tuner so it won't be able to get an over air signal after Feb of whenever, so if you're looking for a digital tuner, look elsewhere.
Anyway, I agree with the others on the volume issue, it's rather loud at the 1 setting on the volume, especially when I'm trying to go to sleep, but it's not a deal breaker, and is easily adjusted by using the volume control on your input devices (you might be surprised to know that many cable boxes and DVD players have their own volume controls)
The picture is great, and it makes a more than appropriate bedroom TV, if you can tweak the volume controls a little.
